What Are The Benefits Of Strength Training For Women?

Empowering Women: Unveiling The Myths and Embracing The Benefits of Strength Training.

Have you ever said, or thought “But I don’t want to get big and bulky” or “I don’t want to look like a man”?

For the longest time, for decades actually, women have been bombarded with a misconception and even lived with the fear that they will get too big and bulky if they lift weights, and so have basically avoided weight training. They’ve been deterred from reaping the amazing benefits of strength training. How sad is that!?

However, as a woman in her 50’s and a strength coach, I stand as living proof that such fears are unfounded! The fact is, strength training has transformed my life in countless ways, enhancing both my physical health and mental well-being.

Ladies, Lifting Weights Will Not Make You Look Like A Man!

The myth that strength training will lead to a masculine physique … well, let me tell you ladies, if you do not want to get big, there is not much hope that it will happen from lifting weights!

Let me reassure you I have been lifting weights for my health and strength for years now, and I don’t look like a man (whatever that is supposed to look like! LOL)

In fact, my body composition (to my delight and surprise), has improved in so many ways, and I love it! I walk taller, I feel confident, I get compliments about how I look, and people are amazed when they learn that I am a Nana! ❤️

The Benefits of Strength Training Unveiled:

1. Enhanced Body Composition:

Contrary to popular belief, lifting weights won’t bulk you up like a male bodybuilder. Instead, it sculpts and enhances your physique, leading to a leaner and more defined look. I’ve witnessed firsthand how strength training has reshaped my body, resulting in improved muscle tone and a more youthful appearance.

2. Increased Confidence:

Strength training isn’t just about physical gains – it’s also a powerful confidence booster. As you conquer challenging training sessions and achieve new personal bests and progressive overload, you’ll develop a sense of inner strength and self-assurance that transcends the gym.

3. Functional Strength and Mobility:

As we age, maintaining functional strength and mobility becomes increasingly important. Strength training targets key muscle groups, improving balance, coordination, and overall mobility. Whether it’s lifting groceries or playing with my Grandchildren, I’m grateful for the physical prowess that strength training has afforded me.

4. Mental Well-Being:

The benefits of strength training extend far beyond the physical aspect – it’s also a potent mood enhancer. Engaging in regular exercise releases endorphins, neurotransmitters that promote feelings of happiness and well-being. Personally, I’ve found that strength training serves as a form of therapy, offering a welcomed reprieve from the stresses of life.

One Important Thing To Remember About Our Bodies:

One thing to remember is that ultimately, your diet is what will help your muscle growth, change that body composition, or help you lose fat. A great saying to remember;

You can’t out exercise a bad diet!
