Strength Training
We highly recommend Strength Training for any age, especially as we are reaching our 50’s and beyond. The benefits are many and amazing, including;
Better mobility, body composition, confidence, leaner and tighter body, better fitting clothes, longevity, energy, being able to play with the kids and grandkids, getting in and out of a chair, on and off the toilet, carrying groceries, hanging the washing, opening doors, better mental health … I could go on for ages here!
You can start at any age and any fitness and strength level. You can train alone at home with an online strength program using an app that guides you and provides the accountability you need to stay on track.
You could also choose to train at the gym, or even better, train with a Coach or Personal Trainer. Not all Coaches and Personal trainers are equal, so you would want to check out their qualifications and experience. You would also want to see them in action, as in do they walk their talk!?
When I first started Powerlifting, I checked out some gyms and Coaches, and I was shocked by some of the things I heard and saw! I looked at the individuals, some were recommended and some approached me. I chose someone who not only knew what they were talking about with Strength & Conditioning, but they listened to my needs, and they communicated well with me, and encouraged me with their approach.
Some of the gym gear that I started with were knee sleeves, wrist wraps, wrist straps, squat shoes, deadlift slippers, and a lifting belt. I’ll go further into the details of each of those and the reasons why I chose them.
